14th Annual Gentleman's Beefsteak November 1st, 2025
For Christmas 2011 I was given a book called Secret Ingredients: The New Yorker Book of Food and Drink. In it were some of the best food articles from the New Yorker's long history. One of my favorite stories was called All You Can Hold For Five Bucks. The story explained the origins, history, and traditions of the American Beefsteak Banquet. As a lover of food, history, and merriment, I decided that I wanted to recreate this with my friends. In October of 2012, in the middle of harvest season here in Napa, I decided to hold the first Napa Beefsteak. The rest is history.
We generally hold Beefsteak at different locations around Napa Valley. Its been in an old carriage house, a backyard patio, wine caves, vineyard barns, and hotel rooftops. Every year we try to make it unique and memorable. The location is only shared with invited guests.
